Tenants Saturday
The last Saturday of 2023 spent at Tenants of the trees.
I see Frank Pellegrino is hosting a party at Tenants of the trees in Silverlake, so I decided to go then after my rsvp on Partiful. Since this is Tenants, I figured I’d have to be creative with my fits since they clearly know how to dress over there than they do in my neighborhood so thus I pick my leather blazer in chocolate brown with a black collar shirt for some contrast. I make my way to KFC in my neighborhood to get a quick meal since I don’t recall having dinner this afternoon and thus, I might as well indulge myself. I order the usual 3-piece tenders with biscuit and Pepsi. I make sure not to spill any of that gravy on my jacket and take the utmost caution to do so since tenants has a strict door policy and thus, we tread carefully mademoiselle. To offset these calories, I take the bus which is only a minute from KFC. Throughout this journey I see the sights of Sunland and Glendale. When I reached the Americana on brand, I see the beautiful Christmas decorations surrounding the outside of the mall and commuters telling the driver Happy new year. It was magnificent and I remain glad I went on this journey. I get off on Glendale and riverside and take a walk across the stairs leading to Hyperion. The cold was creeping upon me, but I was determined to get through this.
The entrance is on the other side this time, so I made it just as it started at around 10pm. There are 3 door people and I say I’m on Franks list, she checks her phone to see who’s hosting and then from there I’m approved to go in (thank you doorwoman for letting me in). I go in and see it’s not really crowded which isn’t a surprise since I was early. I make my way to the restroom and take a quick selfie while I’m at it for the memories. This bar has some of the best color palettes I’ve seen and the fact that it’s a cafe during the day is quite an interesting concept. I get myself a sky duster at the bar and chat up with this group that’s near me. They seem like the cool sort, and we talk about this establishment’s architecture. Guess I am not surprised they chose the name considering the trees surrounding the place. Jason and Reza you guys sure know how to pick an east side mixer that delivers. A bit of time passes, and we see more people coming through. Without a doubt I feel a bit challenged since these clientele are quite beautiful people that could have come from a modeling gig for Versace or Louis Vuitton for that matter, and I don’t have that sort of physical attribute that they possess.
The DJ is set up blasting the usual club tunes you encounter out and about pretty much anywhere in LA and putting out some old school tunes by The Pointer Sisters and INXS and I immediately feel happier since it’s been a while since I last heard these. I show the DJ what I think about this playlist from my notes on my iPhone since it was better than Bar Lis in Hollywood. If only Noah Dillon was DJing this night I wonder how that would turn the night? As the crowd starts packing the dance floor, I notice Frank and say my hellos. Luke Haeger wasn’t here to host this party, but I feel it would’ve been even better to meet him here as well as others who usually host at this spot since they always have this artistic quality about them. Afterwards I join this group that’s dancing. I’m not a dancer at all but it didn’t take much to realize that you don’t have to be a pro to dance considering that the group had some basic dancing skills, and we were getting loaded so we didn’t care either. The night goes on and the line to the restroom is packed, there are people on the ledges dancing, I can barely handle the heat, so I unbutton one button from my shirt. Those Skydusters are underrated let me tell you as well as their wine selection.
It hits around 2ish am and the crowd is dispersing. I stand waiting for my Uber. My savior comes and we head towards my home. But before I do that, I requested to stop near an open space nearby my house to take in the sights of the night sky. Thinking about how this night has treated me so far. I give Tenants of the trees a 4.0 out of 5 for its distinctive personality. I can imagine Billie Eilish had a blast performing here in the past before she went onto mainstream success. Afterwards I decide to get a snack from the 7eleven that’s maybe like a block away from home. I get a cookie, sandwich, and some water to help me ease the drunkenness that I had endured on this journey. The streets are like a ghost town, I enter my house and realize today is the last day of 2023. Off to bed I go in order to prepare for the next main quest…
